We will be putting together a concert performance of selections from Handel's Rinaldo at University Baptist Church on Saturday, May 5, 2018. It's a score filled with some of Handel's most beautiful and challenging music, bringing to life selections of the classic story of war, love, and deceit between Rinaldo, a knight in the Crusader Army, his lover, the pious Almirena, the Saracen King Argante, and his mistress, the cunning sorceress Armida.
I hope you will join us on this Cinco de Mayo for this performance, and come celebrate afterwards as well (TBA)!
Rinaldo- Veronica Williams
Argante- Bruno Barbosa
Almirena- Amanda Menzie
Armida- Liz Gautsche
Piano: Keenan Boswell
Fellow sopranos and good friends Sarah Tucker and Elizabeth Gautsche invite you to this free event in support of the Houston Area Women's Center (HAWC). It will be an evening of music they love to bring people together while at the same time helping local women who have been victims of violence and domestic abuse. Donations collected at this free event will be given to the Houston Area Women’s Center to aid in their counseling, education and shelter programs. The Houston Area Women’s Center “promotes empowerment and supports the right of all individuals to self-determination,” and the singers would like to further that goal through music making. Joining Ms. Gautsche and Ms. Tucker are pianist Kevin Miller, conductor Kevin Fitzgerald, and talented Houston area orchestra musicians. Repertoire includes song selections with piano by Debussy and Marx as well as Mozart's 'Exultate Jubilate' and Samuel Barber's 'Knoxville Summer of 1915,' accompanied by orchestra. Please show your support for the HAWC and enjoy this evening of uplifting performances! Exultate! Uplifting Women through Music is a part of St. Mark’s A Little Night Music series with the mission to bring free classical music events to the community at large.
